One of the odd things about having such a large readership is that when something surprising or horrible or disastery happens, there's a sort of expectation that you'll say something, as if silence is the equivalent of dismissal (and perhaps it is, I don't know).
There were a couple of earthquakes this morning, but I heard about them and the size and having spent a long time in California, I was fairly blase about them. Then I read...well, the entire internet's reaction to them, and realised that not everyone grew up in California.
So I thought while we are doing the roll-call-and-head-count, if-you-need-help-post-here thing, I'd share some information, because once I got home tonight I went and checked in on the inventory of my Emergency Kit. We've always had one in my family, and the schools usually had them as well, and when I moved out on my own I got one and have rotated stock in it (occasionally losing it entirely) for many years.
This is my emergency kit, kept in a black backpack in the closet of my kitchen.
