Yesterday I thought I was having some kind of sense-memory induced hallucination, because after I left work I kept smelling smoke. I know the smell of a large conflagration -- I did spend some serious time in California -- but I thought I must just be smelling it because it felt like autumn out, and autumn always means fires, to me. So I thought the physical sensation must be crossing a wire in my brain, because I could smell it downtown and once I got home, and there was no way a local fire would cause that.
Nope. Not a local one...
Long story short: there was a forest fire in Minnesota, and a jet stream somehow plucked up the smoke and spread it out over Wisconsin and northern Illinois. I wasn't hallucinating! Minnesota was on fire!
Things you never think you'll say...
How great is this city though? Half the time downtown smells like chocolate from the Blommer factory, and sometimes we get just a hint of Minnesota on fire...
