scribe and fiercynn are looking for help with a vid project about the history of fandom! They're collecting original footage of people doing fannish things and asking people to tell them about their favorite fandoms. They're especially hoping for older fandoms, and for footage of the Ianto Jones memorial in Cardiff. You can read more about the project here.

The Kony 2012 Issue
A lot of people this week sent me links about Invisible Children and the Kony 2012 viral video. I'm certainly not the first person to weigh in on it, but if you're wondering what the story is all about, hopefully I can help.

If you do want to help children affected by war, I've been linked to WarChild as a reliable international family of humanitarian groups working to help children impacted by every war.
And if you want to help kids who are actually in Uganda -- which is still a struggling nation carrying the scars of political upheaval -- you could do worse than Children of Uganda. Children of Uganda works to help Uganda's youth and particularly those orphaned by the AIDS epidemic receive good childhood nutrition, vaccination, and education, as well as advocating for HIV/AIDS prevention and womens' health education. I've been a regular donor to Children of Uganda for five years; it was my first grown-up, found-it-myself charity and the first charity I gave to with the proceeds from Nameless.
