Jan. 24th, 2013 05:33 pmPARTY: ACCOMPLISHED.
Every year, our department has an "After Holiday Party", mainly because we can never get it together in time to book a party room before the holidays. Last year was a bit dismal; not many people and the staff weren't very nice. This year we booked at a different restaurant, plus there were twice as many of us, so it went a lot better.
I suspect the fact that we had an open wine bar helped.
Anyway, because I'm the person who organises the party, I always spend the day anxious. I mean, I'm not a huge fan of parties ANYWAY. But this one was okay. I think it helped that I got a seat and did not move from it except to get more calamari. And, as mentioned: WINE.
Only took me until I was 33 to realise that booze makes the party. Ah well.
It always cracks me up that the waitstaff and managers defer to me like I'm some kind of PARTY EXPERT. They know I'm the one bankrolling it, I suppose, and it's not like they're going to be aware that I have three sub-bosses and one superboss to report to. I mean, it's a bit nice to be treated like a big shot and all, but I'm still the Office Guy.
But everyone has been bundled off home, and I am home under the blankets and not coming out unless R comes over to watch Wheel of Fortune. Given I have a steady job in an office and he's now teaching music nearly full-time, our schedules conflict less, but we're both way more tired in the evenings.
Being a grownup is exhausting.
