Good morning everyone, and welcome to RFM! Possibly the most epic RFM ever, I don't know how this week happened.

Ways To Give:

Arsenic linked to a fundraiser for [livejournal.com profile] aicanaro, who has been diagnosed with cancer and needs help to afford his treatment. Dominic is a good kid who has had more than one really tough break and could use the help.

Emily's friend Sharon has been suffering from severe health issues after a collapse in mid-February. She's facing a long recovery and what seems to be a somewhat hostile medical establishment. There is a GoFundMe as well as a Fundraiser event and a tumblr with donated goods for sale to raise money, including knitted goods, cooking lessons, and art pieces.

[personal profile] alee_grrlhas set up a microfunding site to help Paganaidd get some much needed dental work. (I've checked, this is different from the other call for dental work aid below). You can read more here or check out the microfunding site here.

Xandii linked to a surgery fundraiser for a friend, Adam, who is selling paracord bracelets and pet collars to raise money for a procedure that insurance won't cover.

[personal profile] sai_salamanderlinked to a GoFundMe fundraiser set up for a friend, who is in a bad situation at the moment -- living in a country where she doesn't know the language, with an abusive partner. They're trying to fund a flight to the UK and some moving-in money to get her somewhere safe. For more information you can also contact Sai via PM.

Anon has a post up asking for help raising funds for some fairly necessary and urgent dental work. The post linked to here is an anonymized account, but they have contact information there for anyone who wants to help.

[personal profile] scribelinked to a kickstarter for an awesome documentary about the lives of LGBTQ youth and their allies in True Colors by OUT Youth Theater, a troupe that creates original productions based on their experiences and tours the show to schools and community groups. They're halfway through filming and could use some help getting the project finished.

Christian linked to a fundraiser to help build capital for Magickal Nature, a shop selling handcrafted ritual/metaphysical items that are fair trade, locally sourced, and recycled.

Christian also linked to a fundraiser for Hearthfires, a not-for-profit Pagan support/education network, to replace and upgrade equipment and help keep the organisation afloat.

[livejournal.com profile] evilstormlinked to a kickstarter for Long Hidden, an anthology of historical fiction from the POV of marginalized people. They've hit their original goal, but every little bit helps, and this sounds like a great thing to get involved in on the funding end.

Help For Free:

Christy linked to a petition at whitehouse.gov to allow the recognition of non-binary gender identities (ie, an identity other than "male" or "female") in legal Us documentation.

Doola linked me to another show -- they seem to crop up every year -- where contestants are encouraged to damage and loot historic sites as part of a reality competition. Comments decrying the looting of sites by amateurs uninterested in preserving the historic record are encouraged.

Just For Fun:

[personal profile] subluxateis running an LJ Expats Friending Meme over on their journal!

[personal profile] iamshadowlinked to the Drunk Wolverine Tumblr. YES.

[personal profile] onebrightroadreminded me that the LA County Museum of Art has just released twenty thousand high-resolution images of artworks in its collection which it deems to be in the public domain. This is awesome news, and you can read more about it here. Remember, LACMA is a not for profit -- if you like the high-res images or make use of them, consider donating to support the museum.

And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!).
HEY look at how I failed to post the entire weekend.

Being fair, I spent most of Saturday in bed, and there's only so much entertainment you can wring out of "I've been in bed all day". Outside of specialised videos, anyway.

Sunday I ended up going to a Danny Boy sing-off with R and the Octogenarians (best band name) and then out to lunch at one of the kadillions of Irish pubs on the north side. I don't think I've ever actually been in a bar on St. Patrick's Day before; there are a lot of green hats out there, yo.

I'm off to get my nasal ballonplasty'd today; I was planning on cupcakes after but the cupcake truck I stopped at last time I went to the doctor's office apparently doesn't normally stop there, so I'm going to see if I can get something from Do-Rite Donuts instead. This will also reward R for getting out of bed at the indecent hour of 1pm to come and pick me up.

If he manages to wake up.

Otherwise, all the doughnuts are mine, except one for the taxi driver who will be taking me home. (No worries -- I'm not actually going under anaesthetic, so it's ok if I do that.)

It has occurred to me that I could stand to make some local friends who are either slightly more reliable than R, or who have the same neurotic hang-ups about being on time that I do.

I'm not sure people exist who have the same neurotic hang-ups about being on time that I do.
Nasalplasty achievement unlocked! You win the nosebleed badge.

(Everything went well, waiting for R to pick me up now.)

I am home! R picked me up no problem, and it's a good thing too because I was all "I totally could have taken the subway!" up until about five minutes after I got home, when I kind of had to sit down for a while. I really should stop underestimating his ability to get shit done, he's been much better about it lately.

The procedure was not painless, but it could have been much worse. The doctor had to numb me up double (not unusual for me, I usually have to get double the novocaine too) and there was a kind of hairy moment when the epinephrine in the injection made me go all ears-ringy, but I've had that happen before so I didn't freak out. The procedure itself didn't hurt much; I'm a bit sore now but I'm home and under blankets so I'm going to put a movie in and probably fall asleep.

RDJ SHERLOCK HOLMES, I CHOOSE YOU.
On Caustic Soda this week, which I was just listening to, one of the podcasters was discussing Good Omens, which he (rightly) praises very much, and said he had listened to it on audiobook recently. He said he spent the whole time imagining it as a slightly darker Pixar film, with Stephen Fry as Aziraphale and Robert Downey Jr. as Crowley.

a) WOULD WATCH. I am a fan of the Bettany/Depp casting from way back, but Fry and Downey may have displaced them.

b) I really need to re-read Good Omens.

I read it every couple of years, and every time I think "Crowley and Aziraphale can't be as gay for each other as I remember. There's no way this can be as slashy as I recall it being" and every time it is.

I also tend to forget that there are other characters, because Crowley and Aziraphale are so magnificent. In some ways I usually find myself wishing for a story that was just them having epic opposite-sides adventures. (I love the kids and the Four Horsemen, and I like the Four Lesser Horsemen, but Newt and Anathema and their little red wagon, I just can't summon that much interest.)

Anyway, if you haven't read Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, I recommend it. Especially since then you can go online and search for Good Omens fic and find endless porn about angels and demons getting it on.
