Called into a meeting I forgot goes until like 1pm. Radio free Monday will be very late today....
Good morning all, and welcome to a hurried and slightly belated Radio Free Monday!

Ways To Give:

[personal profile] dont_panic42 linked to [personal profile] staranise, who is in a tight financial spot and had the unique idea of crowdfunding her thesis.

Theorclair on Tumblr is raising money for some much-needed and fairly urgent dental work; you can read more here or give at her gofundme here.

Eileen is looking for an apartment or house with flatmates in the Memphis, TN area; nonsmoking, cat-friendly, and don't mind a small pet snake. Women preferred but open to other options. Interested folks can contact phoenixargent at gmail.com.

[livejournal.com profile] dorkabunny linked to a fundraiser for Mercer Veterinary Clinic, a project out of the UC Davis Veterinary School that provides free care for pets of homeless people in the Sacramento, CA area. The clinic is currently being run out of a warehouse that is scheduled to be demolished, and they need to raise forty thousand dollars to move into two trailers that need to be retrofitted into a functional clinic.

Pellucid linked to a fundraiser for The Dictionary of American Regional English, which has run out of funds before it ran out of words, and they're trying to raise more money to keep their staff on and keep working.

[livejournal.com profile] bluebombardier linked to a couple of kickstarters:
Teramyyd: Earthsphere, a steampunk fantasy adventure board game.
Steampunk playing cards
Twisted Skies, an adventure card game based on the steampunk arts collective Airship Isabella

[livejournal.com profile] serpentpixie is looking for travel advice on New York and Montreal.

News To Know:

[livejournal.com profile] eldarwannabe had a follow-up link to last week's article about Intern Culture, an American Bar Association article about the possible illegalities of many internships.

Just For Fun:

Several people linked me to XKCD's awesome map of the Subways of the World. Mornington Crescent, anyone?

Jen linked me to a fantastic article about "fake townhouses" that hide access to and ventilation chimneys from subway tunnels.

And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!).
Hey all, there are reports of explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

I wasn't going to post a roll-call-and-headcount because it's a very localized event and the odds of the Cafe being there are slim, but mainly because until we knew what was happening I didn't want to contribute to the panic. I do now have some more useful links to share though.

If you need to check in with someone or want to let folks know you're okay, please have a look at Red Cross Safe & Well.

If you need to find out if a runner you know was in the marathon or completed it, you can look them up here.

Phone lines into and out of the city are jammed right now, so if you can, try to use text message, twitter, or facebook to check in with your loved ones.

Peeps in Boston, hope you're all okay. Stay alert and stay safe. We're thinking of you.
Well, that certainly makes the comedy of errors that was my day seem like small potatoes.

Update links: Google Person Finder.

Places to stay for runners who can't get home.

R's coming over, so I won't be around much for the next hour or two, but I promise you guys there is a hilarious and horrifying follow-up to the Comic Sans Communications saga.
