auntyros has just launched a Kickstarter to pay for a professional editor for their next self-published book. There are some cool rewards, including hand-knitted socks!
evilstorm linked to a This American Life program about gun violence in Harper High School in Illinois, where last year 29 students were shot. There's a fundraising drive to raise money for the school, which will lose $1.6M this year.
mint_green linked to Kamapon on Tumblr, whose cat has been diagnosed with cancer. Kama is offering art commissions (at a very reasonable rate) in exchange for funds to help Tomo get the treatment he needs.

strangesequitur wanted to remind everyone that on July 15th, Yahoo will be purging any accounts that haven't logged in for twelve months or more. If you have an account that you've neglected – especially if that account has "password reset" account ownership/admin ability on file with other websites and services, (such as LiveJournal) – you may want to log in to Yahoo and/or update your contact information with those other services. I was hacked this way when someone else got control of my old hotmail address and used it to get my LJ password. Don't let it happen to you.
