Jul. 31st, 2013 03:29 pmI am free of my sleep machine!
I had my one month follow-up visit with the sleep doctor about my apnea, oh god I feel so old. I told him that it wasn't actually an option to continue with the CPAP machine, because I can't do another month of this, let alone the rest of my life. It's not to do with falling asleep; I fall asleep and stay asleep just fine with the machine on. It's the fact that when I get up in the morning after sleeping with it on all night, I am nonfunctional. I've had to make sure not to wear it on nights where I had to be alert the following day. I have spent a month in abject misery, and this past week I have been on the verge of tears from exhaustion pretty much every day.
The nosebleeds and chafed ears didn't help either.
So, I'm off the machine, and I have an appointment tomorrow to be fitted with the "next best" option, a mouthguard that I suspect may also fail, but can't possibly fail as epically as the sleep machine. I don't anticipate bleeding into the mouthguard.
I have rarely seen anyone with the same combination of "surprise" and "annoyance" as the sleep-machine-sales-agent did when I totally CPAP-blocked him from trying to push a new mask on me. People are always startled when I assert my right not to justify myself to total strangers.
