So, I belong to this survey website, where you take surveys every so often and you earn "money" from them. You can't actually cash in your "money", hence the quotes; you can basically only use it to buy stuff from the survey website, kind of like a points system with a dollar sign on the front.

It's better than it sounds, though; the site offers stuff like frequent flyer miles, hotel club points, magazine subscriptions (which I have given as gifts), giftcards to various websites, et cetera. It's a pretty good deal if you don't mind a total stranger asking invasive personal questions about your taste in "consumer beverages" and how much money you make a year.

That said, a lot of the surveys don't pay much. So you just take surveys for months and months in increments of twenty-five or fifty cents, and sometimes you get a FIVE DOLLAR one (those are tempting but annoying because oh my god they ask you so many stupid questions) and eventually you have a hundred dollars in your account and you buy yourself some frequent flyer miles. Because I do a lot of flying and I'm poor.

But then you go from having, say, $101.46 to having $1.46. And you log in to do a survey and it's just sad.

Poor empty survey account. I WILL FILL U SOON.

Anticipating the question -- the website is www.e-rewards.com, but it is by sponsor invitation only (ie, I can't give you an invite). You can google for "invite to e-rewards" and you should be able to find links, but be careful and don't get scammed. The most reliable links I've found are at the bottom of this page, but you have to have a frequent-flyer membership with one of the airlines listed.
