Jan. 5th, 2015 08:11 amGood morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
Ways To Give:
tzikeh linked to a post by
heroinelifestyle, seeking a temporary place to stay in Chicago. She is a trans woman who has escaped an abusive situation and is looking for somewhere to stay for a month or two, but even a few days will help. You can read more and get in touch with her here.
finch is raising money to cover medical expenses and associated costs with his cancer diagnosis and upcoming surgery. He's offering card readings, fiction, and other perks in return for support. You can read more about him and his family and donate or purchase a service here.
drownedinlight linked to a fundraiser for her college sister Kiki Nicole, who is struggling to cover tuition and can't register for more classes, get internship credits, or even get her transcript until the $4K+ balance is cleared. She's moving to Portland from North Carolina this month and is raising funds to help cover the move, which will hopefully begin building her career and help her get back on her feet. You can read more about her situation and support her move here.
soc_puppet linked to Operation ZipZap, a fundraiser to train and equip a trans women of color to provide electrolysis to her communities. Yocheved has reached her funding goal, but I'm sure she could still use more help. You can read more and support her schooling and equipment here.
Shusu, in honor of Leelah Alcorn, a trans woman whose parents sent her to "conversion" therapy and who committed suicide this past month, linked to a number of charities supporting trans people, particularly trans women of color and the Trans Lifeline. There is an essay about the plight of trans women of color, including a MASSIVE linkslist to fundraisers, here, and a brief list of trans-supportive charities posted in Leelah's name here.
Housing:
off_coloratura is looking for a third roommate in a Rogers Park apartment in Chicago. $750/mo plus utilities (usually between $50-$100); a private room with shared bath, in-unit laundry, and two cats, close to the red line and grocery. You can view pictures and get more information here.
Jobs:
brainwane linked to the nonprofit Amara Project, whch is looking for part-time, remote hires for people to subtitle online videos and/or make translated subtitles. Anyone with strong English skills who is a native speaker of ANY language is eligible; they're especially looking for native speakers of Arabic, Norwegian Bokmål, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Swahili, Swedish, Turkish, Urdu, and Vietnamese.
