For the first time since I left my parents' home, I'm giving out candy to trick-or-treaters, because my building organizes an internal trick-or-treat where the adults sign up to give out candy and the kids go around to the doors that have pumpkins in front of them. (Which is brilliant.) I have a new appreciation for my neighbors, and for the shit they go through raising kids. :D

I had a variety of candy in my bowl along with those little plastic fake fangs and skull erasers, for kids who can't have candy or don't like chocolate. This seemed well-thought-out to me. For a while.

The last trick-or-treaters I had, the little toddler girl in a princess costume reached out, picked up a skull eraser, and popped it STRAIGHT INTO HER MOUTH.

While I looked on in horror, her older brother (in an Iron Man costume!) who couldn't have been more than nine, yelled "THAT'S NOT A CANDY" and REACHED INTO HER MOUTH and took it out.

Good brothering, Iron Man! Poor consideration for tiny children and choking hazards, Sam Starbuck!

My pumpkin got a lot of attention, though. Because it was AWESOME.
