Jul. 19th, 2016 04:58 pmThis afternoon, I wanted to listen to Where Have All The Cowboys Gone, which was a Paula Cole hit from my high school years. Here's a fun way of putting the internet in perspective: when the song came out in 1997, you couldn't find the lyrics online. I know because I tried.
Anyway, I was thinking about it because it has a very similar sentiment to Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car", which I was thinking about because I just found out that Christian Kane covered Fast Car and I feel weird about him regendering it.
I found a youtube copy of the Cowboys music video (which you also could not google in 1997 and if you could you didn't have fast enough internet to load it) so I put that on, and I don't spend much time on YouTube so I was unaware that it had an autoplay feature where it goes to a new video. Maybe I found part of a playlist? At any rate, I ended up listening to an entire afternoon's worth of Paula Cole, Meredith Brooks, and Jewel.
Jewel did like...a ton of albums. I had no idea. And Alanis Morisette is still making music videos where it looks like she just got a bunch of friends together and did it in a weekend for lols, good for her.
So I've had a very nostalgic and feminist afternoon. It was like Lilith Fair with air conditioning.
