Jul. 20th, 2016 07:39 amI've been trying to get back in the swing (yet again) of writing here regularly, to document my life a little more fully than the kind of documentation tumblr offers. This morning I read an article that got my not-for-profit rage all up, so I wrote a big rant about philanthropy, but I decided this isn't really the place for me to yell about eating the rich, so.
I've got a bunch of stuff planned for this week, in terms of adventures, but there's a heat wave coming and I hate heat more than I hate almost anything else other than certain classes of wealthy philanthropist. :D It's not so bad when it's dark out, because the heat's less inherently horrifying than the actual rays of our terrible daystar, but it doesn't get dark until like eight at night these days. As much as I always hate never being outdoors when it's light out in the winter, I long for a 5pm sundown.
I'm hard at work on what to do about winter right now, in fact. This is the first year I've been street running in a climate like Chicago's, and I run in sport sandals because the high/rigid backs of ordinary shoes give me blisters. So either I've gotta take my chances with sandals and thick socks and see how long I can get by with that, come winter, or I've gotta find decent running shoes that won't kill me. Or I'm gonna have to just go back to running indoors around November.
(This will make my "one 5K per month" habit a bit awkward, since I'm registered for a turkey trot in November, but my folks want me home for Christmas so maybe I can sneak in a 5K while I'm in Texas. Except apparently they don't believe in 5Ks in Austin, goddamn where are all the fun runs.)
I'm tracking my mileage mainly because you're supposed to replace your running shoes every 300 miles, and someone suggested to me this morning that perhaps I should come up with a virtual distance I could cover, like the people who practice walking to Mordor. I haven't yet decided what fictional range 300 miles covers, but I bet I can find one in Discworld somewhere.
The most exciting thing in my life is that this time next week I'll be in Nashville for a conference, and I get to go to a Nashville Sounds game while I'm there. MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL IS MY FAVOURITE.
