(no subject)
Nov. 14th, 2016 08:13 amGood morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
Ways to Give:
heyninja is raising money to pursue her Master's in Counseling, with the goal of filling a gap for people with nontraditional families, fetish interests, BDSM and/or polyamorous lifestyles, and LGBT+ people. You can help fund her degree here.
rilee16 is still struggling to cover medical expenses after two head injuries last year, and hasn't been cleared to return to work, thus can't earn money to cover basic living costs, let alone the bills they've received. You can read more and help out here.
editrx has been struggling to keep her indy bookstore afloat for this past year, and on top of her troubles there, she's now been the subject of a violent assault by her housemate. She's dealing with mounting medical bills and trauma from the assault and needs a lawyer to ensure her attacker is charged properly and convicted. You can read more and give here, send a giftcard for groceries (to editrx@gmail.com) or support Starcat Books by purchasing here.
Activism:
(This is a new section I'm test-driving in the face of last week's election news. It concerns specifically actions to take, groups to support, and information to know regarding the ramifications of an incoming Trump administraiton.)
A couple of people linked to #translawhelp on Twitter, which is a hashtag for lawyers helping trans people prepare their documentation for the new administration. #translawhelp was begun as a scam, apparently, but does have legitimate people participating, so I wanted to link it but attach the caveat to it -- don't give anyone any money or personal information until you have determined they are really a licensed lawyer with your best interests in mind. There is also a post going around which lists more legitimate legal aid for trans people and places you can support.
Amelia linked to resources to help conscientious objectors, or those who would like to become conscientious objectors, register now, in advance of a possible military draft. There's a pamphlet put out by the Methodist Church here (scope that vintage art); there is what I believe to be the same pamphlet (or at least similar information) available free here.
Amelia also linked me to a massive document of suggestions for preparation for the oncoming administration, in English and Spanish, broken down by demographic. This is a great resource for people in targeted populations or non-targeted people who want to help.
Buy Stuff, Help Out:
dr-kara is holding a grab bag sale to support Planned Parenthood and RAINN; when you donate to her fundraiser you get a grab bag of 1 gold-foil print (these are especially gorgeous) and 2 11x17 prints chosen randomly. You can check out the prints and donate here.
magpiesmiscellaney makes wirework jewelry in silver, gold fill, copper, and brass, often with a science geek bent. She's also offering to craft custom pieces for people if they contact her soon. You can shop and commission custom jewelry at her Etsy.
News To Know:
Polly linked to news about Jay Smooth, known for his vlog post "How to tell someone they sound racist"; he's coming to the UK and tickets for this Friday the 18th's talk at the University of Salford are still available. You can read more and buy tickets here.
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can post items for my attention at the Radio Free Monday submissions form or via email at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!). If you're new to fundraising, you may want to check out my guide to fundraising here.
