Nov. 21st, 2016 08:20 amGood morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
Ways to Give:
Cyrus is a 21-year-old trans man with a disability living in Seattle whose landlady has given him until the 30th to move out. He has found a wheelchair-accessible apartment but needs to raise the cash for deposit and rent because of the short notice. You can read more and help out here.
drownedinlight is raising money to pay for half of her graduate school tuition next semester; due to ineligibility for student loans, and student loan repayment next semester, she just needs help getting the semester started. You can read more and help out here.
Rachel linked to a fundraiser for her friend Jane, who is a single mother with urgent medical and housing expenses. You can read more and help out here.
dreamwaffles's summer job just ended and she's trying to make ends meet until she fand land another one. She has a donation page up here but is also selling beaded jewelery through Etsy; you can check out Saxifrage Designs and make a purchase here.
heyninja is raising money to pursue her Master's in Counseling, with the goal of filling a gap for people with nontraditional families, fetish interests, BDSM and/or polyamorous lifestyles, and LGBT+ people. You can help fund her degree here.
rilee16 is still struggling to cover medical expenses after two head injuries last year, and hasn't been cleared to return to work, thus can't earn money to cover basic living costs, let alone the bills they've received. You can read more and help out here.
editrx has been struggling to keep her indy bookstore afloat for this past year, and on top of her troubles there, she's now been the subject of a violent assault by her housemate. She's dealing with mounting medical bills and trauma from the assault and needs a lawyer to ensure her attacker is charged properly and convicted. You can read more and give here, send a giftcard for groceries (to editrx@gmail.com) or support Starcat Books by purchasing here.
Activism:
(This is a new section which concerns actions to take and information to know regarding the ramifications of an incoming Trump administration. The primary purpose of Radio Free Monday is still to publicize fellow fans in need and fundraisers that we as a community should be aware of, so please don’t flood me with every activist link you come across. That said, do feel free to share the best and most impactful that you encounter or participate in.)
pidgeling and Amelia both linked to the "We're His Problem Now" calling sheet, which lists weekly "calls to action", tips and strategies, scripts, and contact numbers to help make calling your elected representatives and making your voice heard a total breeze. You can also sign up to receive email notifications and contact them to report issues and share ideas. The sheet is here and the tabs at the top will help you navigate.
Amelia also linked to "Dear Leaders", a compilation of scripts for calling and writing on various issues. You can read more and find scripts here.
danceswchopstck has compiled a huge list of links to read, calls to action, and other post-election resources; you can read and reblog here.
And one from me: the Trump Administration has a fucking horrifying survey up regarding where they should focus in their first hundred days in office. It looks super-fake but I vetted it and it's real. Go and tell him just how unimportant his goals are.
Buy Stuff, Help Out:
gelasius linked to [Trans]formation, a performance devised entirely from the works of and performed by transgender, genderqueer, intersex, and nonbinary artists. Gelasius is a performer in the show and reminds us that "in a country hwere our president-elect represents threats to our very existence, we need to tell these trans stories and create community with each other now". The show is running in Chicago through December 17th, and tickets are $30. You can read more (note content warnings!) and buy tickets here.
magpiesmiscellaney makes wirework jewelry in silver, gold fill, copper, and brass, often with a science geek bent. She's also offering to craft custom pieces for people if they contact her soon. You can shop and commission custom jewelry at her Etsy.
magpiemiscellaney is also offering jewelry for sale to benefit the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and Doctors Without Borders. With regards to the Planned Parenthood sale, she says "You can ask me to donate or I can put it in your honor, or someone else's should you wish ;)".
On that note, a campaign is underway to donate to Planned Parenthood in Mike Pence's name; if you donate in his honor he receives a card saying you gave in his name, but can't write it off on his taxes. I believe over $20K has already been given in his name, and hopefully more to come!
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can post items for my attention at the Radio Free Monday submissions form or via email at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!). If you're new to fundraising, you may want to check out my guide to fundraising here.
