I've been dubbing tapes from video to DVD most of today, and omg, some of the stuff my family taped...
Most of the really old tapes are inherited from my grandparents, since we didn't get a VCR for quite a while after I was born (yes, amazingly, I recall a time when VCRs did not exist). Documentaries on the Statue of Liberty, six hours of earthquake coverage on the '89 San Francisco quake, random old cartoons including a cartoon version of The Coneheads which is just painful. John Denver and the Muppets Celebrate Christmas. Lots of old Moonlighting episodes....Dallas...Scarecrow and Mrs. King...it's like my own personal I Love The Eighties marathon.
Most of what I've seen so far have been Christmas shows, since I'm trying to dub by genre. Now I'm on to Hallowe'en and other "holiday" shows, and after that I think I'll make a Creature Feature disc since we have approximately nine point two billion Harryhausen, Godzilla, King Kong, and other monster movies. When I was young I wanted to be a special effects wizard, so I watched them all obsessively.
And the commercials, dear lord, the commercials. I will be making a disc purely of all the random, scary, horrifying old commercials that were taped along with the shows.
The hair...the clothes...the toys...omg....
