I've been trying to get out and about as much as possible while I still have days relatively free, though much of each day is spent sending out resumes and rescheduling my Apple One appointment.

Last night I was going to go to an AIDS awareness fundraiser at a local nightclub, but yesterday morning I realised that I have no interest in nightclubs at all. So instead I took the afternoon and went down to Old Town again. I really can't be allowed in the Spice House more than once a month.

I had reason to go there, I needed curry powder and garlic powder, but I also ended up buying some of the Sumac berry (Jim, help me find something to use it in!) and also some cheddar cheese powder. They had me at "tasty on popcorn". *sighs* And I bought some almond extract, more than I will probably ever use, but I poured a bit into Ganesh's dish and it made my whole flat smell nicely of almonds, so that's all right.

Afterwards I was going to go down to Chicagoween, which is a festival downtown that runs through Hallowe'en and was opening last night. But honestly? I was tired and it was cold. So I came home and watched some TV and read The Rescue Artist and was perfectly happy.

And this morning I'm staying in and napping because of a horrifying headache, but tomorrow I'm going to Graceland Cemetery to "wander in through the iron gates...stroll round among the graves that crowd each other in the thickly peopled soil of that breezy summit...read the epitaph of stout William Clark, "Despiser of Sorry Persons and little Actions,"...kneel by the triple stone that says how the three Worthylakes, father, mother, and young daughter, died on the same day and lie buried there; a mystery" as Oliver Wendell Holmes put it, though he was talking about Copp's Hill. Still, nobody has captured the thrall of graveyards quite like he did.

(The Worthylake deaths are not actually a mystery, but I'll let you wiki that one for yourself.)
