You guys, hey you guys, the sun was above the horizon when I woke up this morning. This is SO EXCITING.

I also found, via a random stumble round flickr, the Websites as Graphs page. You can see some info on how the graphs work here; they're gorgeous, and the one of Google is particularly sublime. Curious, I followed a link to the app, entered this journal's URL, and literally gasped aloud when it started to chart it. The graphing process is animated and incredibly dynamic.

Uh, but try not to go over there all at once, we've crashed servers with less.

AAAAAAAAH! It was reminding me of something I'd seen recently! It looks like this installation/exhibit/art (god, I don't know what to call it, I'm such a plebe) I saw in Connecticut a few weekends ago when a friend and I were planning on seeing the Fratellis in concert, but a band member's good friend died, so they'd flown back to the UK a few days ago, which we didn't know, which meant we were in Hartford for no reason, so we went to an art gallery, because my friend heard there was a new exhibit opening, which meant FOOD, so we went, and it was cool, and on a wall there was the movie Showgirls represented by colored dots (http://registry.whitecolumns.org/view_artist.php?artist=545).

And I had some cheese, but it wasn't sentient, so I didn't need a grater.

Woah - and also, WOAH. I entered your journal and ... um, it's still going.
Good grief Sam, you're the embodiment of a mini internet all by yourself =)

I've done what they suggested and made a screen grab of mine - dumped it into Powerpoint and then saved it as a .jpg. I'll be putting it up on flickr any minute now. I suppose that would print as well, and if you look at the notes, for a Paypal donation you can get the pdf or jpg and have it on a poster or T-shirt.

That is utterly awesome. I think the only way it could possibly be better would be if you could rotate it in 3-D, and/or have little pop-up tags that show you which links are which. I want to know what the little cluster of yellow tags is on mine, for instance.

And every time you do it, it comes out a different way up, too! I wish I had more icon space, it would make a superb icon. (Well, mine would, I suspect yours is probably enormous *g*)

The yellow cluster could be a drop-down menu, like on the Apple site that he used as an example.

From the key, it says yellow is for forms, which could be drop-downs, yes. But which ones? There are no other yellow dots on my graph at all, so it's something very specialised. I mean, for instance, it's not the LJ Home/Profile/Journal/Friends...etc menus, as that would be a lot more (or so I'd think). And not my userpics, as I have 15, and there are only 10 blobs (and what do they mean by 'drop-down menu', anyway?). I'd just be fascinated to see labels for the different things.

Drop-down menu

Well, the LJ search field in the upper-right corner has an associated drop-down menu that has 6 options. That might account for the yellow cluster.

Mine is kind of enormous, but I'm sad that it has no green in it because I don't use DIV formatting at all.

I looked at mine, and saw the DIV/green tags, and wondered where they'd come from, because as far as I know, I don't use it at all either. Then I remembered where I'd seen it - I do blog pictures from flickr, and that uses the <div style> and </div> tags.

Green = Flickr?

Yes! Thank you. That seems to fit the pattern on my page as well. The tags sprouting out of the green tags must be from the Flickr page... except that doesn't mesh with purple image tags being ends... Maybe each green tag is a LJ entry.

Yes - each green tag, I think, must be a flickr pic that's been blogged as an LJ entry, rather than just linked.

you know, in comparison, your graph is more central than mine. mine just... spins out crazily and grows and grows randomly.

also, apparently my writing journal is just tables and links. :)

Daylight savings in the absolute north of Sweden means the sun isn't up until 8-9 EM when I've already been at work for an hour, and then the sun sets between 2 and 3 PM when I have at least an hour left before I get to go home...

Although before Christmas it just adds to the cozy wintery atmosphere, so I'm not as whiny about it as it might sound. Just, y'know. Sunlight? What is this strange phenomenon of which you speak? ;P

Mine looks like pretty flowers :D And I wonder how come you didn't get any green on yours, I have tons. In fact, that's why it looks like flowers, all green stalks with pretty orange flowers :D

(and I don't even know what DIV formatting is, except in Barnsley a Div is someone who's a bit daft, so ya know, might be why mine's all green...)

Date: 2008-11-03 06:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com
DIV formatting has to do with font formatting -- center alignment, italics, that kind of thing. Since I hand-code all my posts, there's never any div-formatting because I don't really think it's necessary :D

Date: 2008-11-03 10:06 pm (UTC)

Jealous! I want one, but even if I had the money to spare (I think the Roomba ate that) my faucet has no threads on it, so I wouldn't be able to install it properly anyway....

Date: 2008-11-04 07:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rdprice29.livejournal.com
Ah, I chose the dishwasher over the roomba, because I'm afraid one of my Rotties would stomp on it the first time I used it, which would be hilarious, but probably the end of the roomba.

Surely one of R's bluesmen knows how to change a faucet/basic plumbing? Should the funds become available of course. ;P

If you do get one, it's money well spent. I absolutely adore mine.

I think the green versus red emphasis depends on what LJ style you're using. I think yours is an S1 style, with plenty of tables. Mine is an S2 style so a lot of green (for div) shows up.

This icon is actually a crop of part of my journal's graph. :D I ran it for over a week screencapping at the same time every night to document the ways it would change. :D

I think that was about a year ago. :D It's a fun little experiment. :D I like the way that it serves as a fingerprint of your website :)

Yours is like a big flower. Mine was like a spreading plant, with lots of red and orange and blue flowers! And also lots of green, although how that happened, I do not know.
