So, much to my delight, Trying to Communicate is currently featured as a top link on Making Light, the weblog of a husband-and-wife pair of editors and quite a popular site for the literate internet set (the liternet?).
I dropped a comment on the most recent post, of course, thanking them for the publicity. I checked back just now, on the off-chance there'd been a response, and found that one of the users had directed me to an Open Thread, which, I'm not quite sure how it all works yet because I suck at understanding website infrastructure, but I guess it's like a commentin' free for all. Hello, Cafe!
Anyway, I scrolled through the comments to see if anyone had indeed commented, because I crave praise and validation. And then I got sucked in...
And then I reached the end and burst out laughing. The universe, wisely, has put checks and balances in place to keep my ego from swelling too large. LOLcats in Cardiff was completely ignored for an in-depth and very serious discussion of teakettles.
I'm not complaining, I'm quite tickled by it -- it was a great pimp for the fic and it's a group of intelligent people who like puns, and I can't really believe that something I wrote on the El ride home about cats that speak in capslock has garnered the attention that it has, let alone could garner any more.
And also I learned many important things about the proper purchase and use of teakettles.
