I gave my parents the sticks to cones scores and they pointed out that it was WOEFULLY INACCURATE.

Sticks:
2 frydogs
1 cotton candy/candyfloss
1 ostrich teriyaki
1 pronto pup
1 fudge puppy

Cones:
2 ice cream cones
2 cones of roasted almonds

For a grand total score of six-four in favour of the sticks. (This is family-collective, not all this food was eaten by myself.)

There was HEATED DEBATE over whether cotton candy/candyfloss counts as stick or cone food. It is technically a cone of paper, but the sugar is spun around the cone. So if you fall on the Cone side of the spun sugar debate, the score is TIED.

ETA: I forgot the cone of cookies. Final score is Six-Five, Sticks-Cones.

No no no. In order to qualify as Cone, the food must be INSIDE said Cone. That's logic!

Also, you must decide whether the score depends on each instance of food or each instance of TYPE of food. Does it count that you've had 2 of the same food? I DO NOT THINK SO. In my opinion, only the first instance of each food (e.g. frydog vs. ice cream cone) counts toward the total.

Mum's reasoning is that the object is inherently a cone; whether the cone contains the food inside or outside is immaterial.

Also re: multiples, I haven't had two of anything -- it was me and Lucky for the frydogs, me and mum for the cones. So we're going not so much for variety, in this case, as for actual instances.

Shit, I also forgot the cone of cookies!

I find fault with this reasoning.

Mmmm. Cookies.

AH, but the cone is functioning as a stick i.e. stuff is being eaten off of it, as opposed to out of it.

I think this calls for a Café poll. Then you can tell your Mum that the Internet has Spoken. :D

I think this may be another fundamental disagreement between concrete vs abstract thinking.

Abstract: It's only a cone if it's used as a container
Concrete: A cone is a cone is a cone!

Then again I am also that person who thinks pretty much every philosophical/political disagreement in the world today is a conflict between concrete and abstract thinking...

I agree with your logic; a cone contains, a stick supports; therefore, cotton candy being supported by the paper spindle inside it (no matter it's shape), it falls in the category of stick food.

STICK

Candyfloss is spun around wooden sticks here (UK); candyfloss and paper cones don't belong together!

ps. You just need to tip whatever food you eat next into cones and eat it like that!

I did preserve one stick.

I'm hoping the airport security guards think it's a pencil and don't arrest me for being a stick terrorist.

Don't worry, they let me through O'Hare with a conductor's baton in my violin case, you should be fine with a wooden kebab. :P

(This after they search the case INSIDE AND OUT and make me play the thing in front of EVERYONE AT SECURITY because they thought my violin was hiding a bomb! But no, they didn't even notice the POINTY BATON. *headdesk*)

Since no one else has asked, I will:

Ostrich teriyaki. What was that like?

Actually lots have! :D It was good -- the teriyaki sauce and marinade were delicious and tangy, but the meat itself was rather dry.

Candyfloss counts as a stick due to the fact that the MN State fair website says you buy it "on-a-stick or in-a-bag". So there. *laughs*

Ooh, roasted almonds, those are a definite favourite.

Huh?

We used to have candyfloss here on wooden sticks too; it was that way when I was little. I am now OLD, however, and Safety has occurred. Some little tot could possibly poke himself with a wooden stick, so paper cones have been used probably since Sam's memory....
