Today I learned how to play rummy. Very slowly. But with all the enthusiasm in the world!

Also we ate a lot of sticky toffee pudding and the occasional piece of turkey. Between the eight of us plus toddler, we managed to take care of about two thirds of the turkey and at least half of everything else last night. We're all feeling a deep sense of accomplishment today. Or maybe it's fullness. Difficult to tell.

Oh, except for the pumpkin pie. None of us could bring ourselves to eat one more thing, though it made a nice snack this morning. Pumpkin pie and pad thai, breakfast of champions...

I had a quesadilla this morning for breakfast. Veggie. Baked in the oven. It was quite tasty.

Everyone pretend there's a close parenthesis after the link. Long day was long, long drive home was long.

Pizza for breakfast is never wrong.

Unless it has pineapple on of course...

Rummy is a fun game! Back in the day, my mom taught all of us kids to play. Wish I still remembered how...as I recall, it's a bit complicated.

My mom taught me to gamble with pistachios and gin rummy by the light of an oil lamp on camping trips as a child. Good times...

I had a turkey sandwich and huckleberry pie for breakfast. Pie is always a good decision.

I didn't make the pie, but I begged for a recipe. Here it is:

Its surprisingly simple -- basically make a half-batch of apple pie filling (peeled/sliced apples, cinnamon, sugar, a little flour) and put it in the bottom of a pie shell. Then make a half-batch of pumpkin pie filling (bulk pumpkin in a can or fresh baked pie pumpkin, evap milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon/cloves/nutmeg/etc and pour that on top and bake as for a pumpkin pie. Or make a full batch of each and split to make 2 pies!

I had Earl Grey and a lovely bowl of Calorie Overkill this morning. CO is this weird fruit-salad thing that I'm utterly addicted to, the kind you usually find in cafeterias-- you know, mixed fruit with whipped cream and mini-marshmallows? Only thing is, this version has butterscotch pudding-mix, tons of sour cream, pecans, huge amounts of mandarin orange slices and other exotica to change the flavor and texture. It is very nommable and tastes sinfully good at 8am.

Never learned rummy; but I did once pretend I knew hot to play Cosmic Fizbin. (http://telp.org/mm9/tavern/anyboard/posts/40029.html) Won myself two rum-and-cokes that way. **halo**

EXACTLY. And you can make up such lovely hand names, too-- the group I was playing this with at the time were all incredibly geeky Trekkies (me too) and I recall claiming that some sort of card-combination was "McCoy's Gambit". **evil grin**

The true Breakfast of Champions is Cocoa Krispies and Baileys, but yours comes pretty close.
