Good morning all, and welcome to Radio Free Monday! Now with 100% more air conditioning.
Ways To Give:
nerak_rose linked me to Cape To Cape, a website about Gijs Stevers's plan to bike from Nordkapp to the Cape of Good Hope to raise awareness about renewable energy. He's looking for sponsors, but also for people to ride with him and to host him along the way.
hedda62 linked to Michael Twitty's indiegogo page for The Cooking Gene Project, where he's trying to raise funds for a tour of the southern US. The Southern Discomfort Tour plans to document his attempt to track down information about his enslaved ancestors, as well as his talks and workshops about his research, and his cooking projects along the way.
Help For Free:
jonaht linked to an Allout page about the "Gay Gag Rule" in St. Petersburg, Russia, prohibiting any discussion or mention of homosexuality in media (including literature and music). Allout is asking people to sign a petition demanding the governor of St. Petersburg not to sign the law into effect, and to let St. Petersburg know that the law will materially damage their tourist industry.
Xandii linked me to a contest her college theatre program has entered to win a new light board. A group of students designed, directed, and filmed a four minute video and they need votes to win! Friday is the last day to vote, so I'm reposting the blurb on this one. Go, watch the fire-spinning, and click "like" to help Stephens College get a new lightboard!
News To Know:
jade_mushroom let me know that Dustin Lance Black's play "8", a reading of transcripts from the Prop 8 trial in California, has been aired and is available for viewing on YouTube. There are a lot of stars in this including (I believe; I've not watched the full thing) Matt Bomer, for you White Collar fans.
tzikeh has posted a tutorial on how to use Instapaper to convert fanfic on LJ and DW into Kindle, Nook, and other e-reader formats.
roseathome let me know that her publisher, Entangled, has job openings for editors, publicists, and cover artists. Entangled is a new startup but they're apparently doing very well, and they operate on a percentage system so that everyone involved with each book makes a cut of what it sells.
Just For Fun:
frogy linked to Nerdy Day Trips, an interactive map of day trips that people have gone on for various nerdy reasons.
banesidhe linked to Sex Degrees of Tony Stark. It could just be because I'm a dork for Tony Stark, but this was one of the funniest things I've seen all week.
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!). Remember, brevity is the soul of RFM.
