Now, I'm not saying McDonald's poisoned me, but right after I posted about the S'More Pie I came down with a thundering sinus headache. I ended up leaving work early, staggering home much in the style of a zombie, and collapsing in bed for a few hours. The headache essentially lasted until yesterday, when I slept for fifteen hours of the day. I am singlehandedly keeping Sudafed in business.

I've had a hard time writing lately; I keep starting stories and then losing interest. I'm bouncing around in both Tunnel and Pirate Country, but not really getting anything concrete done in either one. It's not that I don't have ideas, I just have ideas and go "oh, that's cool!" and then get bored before I've written them down. It's like my brain wants to switch off for a month or two. I tend to have dreadful forensic-investigation "documentaries" on in the background whenever I'm home, as a way of mentally checking out. I don't know if it's backwash from all the Dead Isle work I did these past two months or what, but it's becoming tiresome.

I have designated a release date for Dead Isle: September first, a Saturday. That gives me time to get a few last commentaries back, finish typesetting, set up a cover -- I'm pretty excited, I'm working with some artists on this -- and get myself a proof copy to look over before I make any final changes.

On another note, Havocthecat reminded me to remind Chicago locals that PocketCon, a one-day teen-oriented comic convention focusing on works by artists of colour is this weekend. It's being held at the Greater Grand Crossing Branch Library on Saturday from noon to six and admission is free. Also, libraries have air conditioning. AIR CONDITIONING.

Why not take a month or two off from writing? I know that to you writing is like breathing, but stop hyperventilating, man! Chill for a bit, and you'll be all the better for it.

Seconded. I frequently find I have to take time off from drawing, or at least from forcing myself to draw, in order to recharge. I think a big part of the funk I'm in these days is down to having been continuously employed for four years, when I'm used to having a couple months' slug time between contracts. Downtime is good! Sit back and enjoy the change of pace, typesetting, and let the muse catch up on her beauty sleep. :)

Thirded! Creativity is a bit like a sponge so you need to release it and it'll soak up even more awesome stuff, otherwise nothing's going to come of it! Can't wait to read Dead Isle, I read the first couple of chapter's and found it really intriguing :)

MUST WRITE! RAAR! :D

Honestly part of it is that I feel like if I'm not producing, I have nothing really to offer my readers. Which is not true, I know, but it feels that way nonetheless.

September 1st is my birthday!! I whole-heartedly approve of this plan. :D

I forgot it was a Saturday, though... I should probably make some kind of plan.

Yes, but it's labor day weekend. By this point, most people already have plans. Usually my birthday gatherings are pretty small. :-)

What they said, with the added comment that this weather brings bad air quality with it: enough to give you (and me) any number of sinusy-respiratory badness. and bring on any amount of brain-turnoff. (In my case it's a cough, severe laziness and a sore ear). I have to get up at 5AM (when it's ONLY 85) to get the dog to walk.

This weather, it truly is going to kill me. Sorry you're feeling poorly too! :( Has it broken down there like it has up here, at least?

it has! Last night we got lovely rain, and this morning it's only 85 at almost-noon! 70s for the lows this week, they say.

You're talking about air conditioning, and I just heard the local glider club is having a glide-in this weekend, and I'm thinking about going and standing around in the heat to see them!

I had to give up eating anything solid from McDonald's about 10 years ago due to getting skull-splitting sinus headaches 40 minutes after eating from there. You could set a watch by it. I've speculated that there's something in either their oils or preservatives that brings it on.

I've heard something about MSG doing that, I think?

I've heard the same thing but I've had food that had MSG warnings on it and not had anything happen. Puzzling but I don't miss McDonald's food enough to regret giving it up. :)

Huh, intriguing. Perhaps it IS the food.

Maybe the heat is affecting your concentration? I know my brain just basically oozes out of my ears and I'm useless until things stop being disgusting out.

Certainly that's part of it. I get home and all I want to do is lie in front of the air conditioner and fall asleep.

Huh. I had a McDonald's hamburger for the first time in ages, developed a horrible headache (migraine-ish pain) within about half an hour, had to go to bed at 7pm and didn't drag myself out of bed til 10am today. I think I'm not going to do the McDonald's thing any more.

Crazy. Yeah, I'm glad I gave McD's up.

Don't forget that the World Science Fiction Convention is coming to Chicago in September this year.
