Friday Fanfic reccs!
After I attended Wait Wait Don't Tell Me last week,
ladyvyola linked me to a very amusing zombie parody, Wait Wait Don't Eat Me.
Lovers Of Mere Moments by heypeterpanda -- During the fight on the Helicarrier, Tony and Steve have a moment. It's essentially just a quick kiss during battle, but unlike most fics where they magically don't hate each other it's rational (for a given value). It comes from a kind of messed-up place with regards to Steve and his complicated relationship with the Stark family, and I love that. Teen and Up, Steve/Howard, Steve/Tony.
They Know by
determamfidd -- After being forced into a brief telepathic bond during a fight, the Avengers freak out in a variety of ways. They solve this problem with an orgy. This sounds like a PWP, and certainly it is wall-to-wall everyone-fucks-everyone, BUT it's also a very interesting study of Bruce's relationship to the other Avengers and to the Hulk. It's sex but not just sex -- it's told from Bruce's POV and there's a lot to dig into within the story. NC-17, Everyone/Everyone, and warning for mindfuckery and description of trauma.
Finally, I know this is old but I just found it -- Scarlett Johanssen and Mark Ruffalo did a Vogue shoot in May, and there's a great behind-the-scenes video with lots of classic glamour (and a leopard).

Date: 2012-10-08 04:21 am (UTC)On the whole we liked Avengers. It was a bit of a different film to what I was expecting. (Fanon, and presumably comics canon, has them all shacking up together, and I was waiting for the Stark tower commune to emerge, and it never did. Oh, fandom.) I think I was expecting a bit more character development versus exploding things. A bit more snark from Tony, at the very least, but the only scenes where there's a real verbal battle going on is the scene where Bruce ends up grabbing Loki's spear thing. And I really missed the Pepper-and-Tony show, where they're talking all over each other. I love that, and I know it developed out of not really having a script in time for filming Iron Man, but they kept it for Iron Man 2, and it's one of my favourite things about the Iron Man films, because it's natural and unconventional, particularly for an American production. It's far more like the sort of thing you'd see on British tv. (Gwen and Rhys's amazing drop-down drag-out fight in Meat springs to mind.) And the only scenes you have with Pepper and Tony, they're all smiley and nice and not stressy, and it felt a bit pod-people. I mean, you get Pepper telling him to do his homework, but I kind of wish I was there for the fight about Tony flying into a dimensional portal with a nuke. Because it would have been epic, and the sex afterwards would have required, at the very least, a bedroom redecorate.
One interesting thing we had to say to each other after, while the credits were rolling, is that it would have been so damn easy for X-Men: First Class to be just like Avengers. The difference being that the higher-ups chose to focus on Charles and Erik as people, and their developing relationship, rather than making it heavily plot driven. And, because of that, it's not hard to see what Avengers could have been like had they chosen to focus more heavily on characters, rather than plot. It's what fandom and fanfic does really well - filling in the story and character blanks.
P.S. We have decided that everything should have Scarlett Johansson playing the Widow in it. She inhabits the character amazingly well, and it really isn't a downside that she's hot like a burning thing, and not in a vulnerable, eye-candy-for-men way, but in an empowered, kick-your-arse-into-next-week way. OMG. *fans self* And I liked her before it was cool, too. She's been off my radar for a few years, but she's back on it now. (Have you seen Ghost World? Thora Birch, Scarlett Johannson, Steve Buscemi? I have it on video.)

Date: 2012-10-08 05:57 pm (UTC)The Stark Tower commune is comics canon, but also Avengers movie canon if you look closely and squint a bit -- at the very end, when Tony and Pepper are in the half-wrecked tower, he's visible designing bedrooms for his teammates.
I would not mind ScarJo in every movie I watch. I'm sure there's a place for her. :D
I thought Ghost World was a terrible film -- which of the girls did she play, the artist who gets on the bus or the other one?

LOL, I have to admit that I haven't seen it in a decade. I mentioned it because it was the film that I first saw Scarlett Johansson and Thora Birch where they weren't children, and were hot. :D (Thora Birch I knew from Hocus Pocus, Scarlett from The Horse Whisperer.) Scarlett played the girl who doesn't end up with Steve Buscemi. That's all I remember! I'm so shallow.
