Nov. 2nd, 2004 08:23 amThe host with someone indistinct
Converses at the door apart,
The nightingales are singing near
The Convent of the Sacred Heart,
And sang within the bloody wood
When Agamemnon cried aloud,
And let their liquid siftings fall
To stain the stiff dishonoured shroud.
-- T.S. Eliot
The political process existed long before our time and will long after; what matters is that we always strive to improve it.
Remember that above all else it is the process that is important. Democracy is still the great experiment and, whether or not it ultimately succeeds -- possibly after you and I are dead -- you must participate. It may not seem like it, but even a voice that cries out and is stifled has made its impact. Better to speak and be heard by few than not to speak at all.
Vote. Vote your conscience, vote with intelligence.
Conduct yourselves with the proper dignity of people who are allowed to choose their own leaders and allow that others, no matter their belief, have the right to do the same.
Be kind to the people working the polls.
Good luck, America.
