Seriously, did I get hit by a train and not notice?
My day has been incredibly mad. Time has ceased to function in a logical manner.
I got up at five, washed, and put something in my stomach so that it would quit the hell whining, and we were on the road by six to beat Austin traffic. We were both hungry by seven, so we stopped and had a restaurant breakfast, which resulted in me being given my own personal single-serving, airplane-wine-bottle-sized bottle of maple syrup. Back on the road, we arrived in San Antonio around 9, I think. My interview wasn't until 10:30 so we drove around for a while and settled in a Borders, where I read half of Ouran High School Host Club v.6, which if you've read v.6, reading HALF? So not okay.
Anyway.
I got to the museum around 10:15 and was told to feel free to wander around the collection for a while since it would be ten minutes before anyone could come fetch me. I ambled into the near wing and was greeted by a security guard, who thought I might be a lost Events Planner because I had a portfolio and visitor's badge. We talked for a while and she told me they should hire me because "we need more handsome smiles around here" which, you know, basically made my morning.
The interviews started at 10:30 and, except for walking between offices and a quick bathroom break, did not cease until 12:30 at which point I was taken to lunch. Which was nice but nervewracking as I was eating with my prospective boss, so I kind of didn't order or eat a whole lot. Back at 1:30 for more interviews, while my legs cramped up from sitting in uncomfortable chairs and my face hurt from smiling. Handsomely.
I got out at 3:15 and we went in search of sustenance, as I was hungry and had essentially lost my voice. French fries do wonders to revive this, btw. Then we drove home and I had a nap, and then ate another dinner. So I've had four meals today, irregular sleep, and I ache all over.
The "short version" upshot of the interviews is this: They like that I come from a non-museums background with practical design experience (one of the other interns made faces at one of the interviewers behind her back when she talked about "hiring intellectuals", which was AWESOME) and I'm one of two final candidates for the position. As I was the second to be interviewed, they're going to meet and talk about it as soon as possible and I should hear within a week or two.
Tomorrow I need to excerpt my thesis to send to my prospective boss so that she has a writing sample, then write thank-you notes to the OMG SEVEN PEOPLE who interviewed me.
I did get to quietly drop into the interview that I have a familiarity with French -- we were talking about history and I said "well, as I was saying to The Internet someone the other day, it's neat to study French because you see all these Latin roots in it..."
I am the king of talking out my ass, you guys.
And now I am going to go sleep some more. My ass is tired of all the talking!
