Jul. 14th, 2007 07:40 pmYou know, I have no trouble with lie and lay, with you're and your, with canon and cannon. But goddammit, I still have not mastered "forward" versus "forwards".
I'm working on a one-off, the Last Noncanonical Fic I Will Ever Post In Harry Potter Fandom -- not to say it's my last fanfic or that I'll stop AUs, oh no. But once Deathly Hallows is out, there will be a completed canon: no more Jossing, no more need to retrofit a story to suit new canon, no more wondering whether the next book will contradict what I've done.
After this book, HP fic will be changed. Stories will be written that are "outside" of canon in the sense that they can be neither supported nor refuted by the completed works, and AU stories will still be written, but a fic that directly contradicts facts existing in canon will have to be intentional, because after DH, canon is set.
Unless JKR writes a Simarillion, I suppose.
