Exquisite, Ch. 5

Chapter Five

(no subject)

The power is still out, but Crazy Awesome Irish Super did call me at one this morning (he'd been at a wedding, apparently) to tell me to speak to Reggie, the Small Old Italian Guy on the first floor, to get the key to the breaker room. It's like a quest.

Poor Reggie is rather old and not quite all there, so this should be interesting, and also I don't really feel as if I can knock before eight in the morning. I'm pretty sure everything in my fridge has spoiled, but I suppose we shall see.

And now my laptop is out of battery.

The power is back on! The peasants of Frigidaria have been saved!

That truly was a proper quest. The way our building is set up (it's pre-Depression construction, clumsily subdivided probably sometime in the 70s) each set of two apartment has an outer door to a vestibule and then two inner doors leading to the apartments. It is amusing to note that our vestibule is unlocked, and has three inner doors, because I have two front doors, no lie. (One of them might be a secret door to Narnia.)

Anyway, The Old Italian Man on the first floor has a locked vestibule door. So I knocked on that and nobody answered. Unlike me he also has an accessible back-door fire escape, so I went around to knock on that and found it blocked by another secondary door to his porch. I felt that climbing over the porch railing to get to the door would probably be crossing a line.

I called Crazy Awesome Irish Super for a hint, but he wasn't answering, so finally I did what I should have thought of doing in the first place: Checked the mailboxes to find out his last name, went outside, and pressed his buzzer. He emerged, gave me access to the Basement Of Mysteries, and stood by while I completed The Circuitbreaker Puzzle Of Doom.

And now I have the Power Supply Of Mightiness, so I'm going to go cuddle my Familiar, the AC unit.
