A significant portion of Chicago was iced over this morning. I say significant because the portion that was iced over involved a) the pavement outside my apartment building and b) the pavement outside my office building. I slipped and slid quite a bit to get here, but at least I didn't fall. One year and counting since the last broken limb.

When I got to work there was a parcel on my desk, which turned out to be a pretty little hourglass, about four inches tall with green sand on the inside, supposedly a 15-minute timer. Mum saw it and thought I'd like it, and I've been messing with it all morning, spacing out my duties in fifteen minute increments. I'm torn between keeping it at work where I can show it off and taking it home where there is no cleaning crew to threaten its integrity. Not that I think one of them might nick it -- if they've kept their hands off my sushi stapler this long, I know they're resistant to temptation -- but they tend to knock things over.

I have a lot of feedback on Trace I haven't yet addressed, in part because there's no urgency to get it done before I post the next chapter. I will get to it soon, but I'm enjoying a bit of a rest first. Good suggestions all, though, and I have a lot to gnaw on.

But not today, as today I get off work early to go to the dentist, which means no gnawing for a while...
So last month I beta-read a Yuletide fic, and I didn't recc it at the time because *handwave* Yuletide, but I can now, and I am!

Synchronized Swimming by [livejournal.com profile] 51stcenturyfox is a Moonlighting fanfic, but you don't really need to know anything about Moonlighting to enjoy it -- I've seen one episode of the show ever, and I had a great time reading it. It's just fun, sexy banter and fruit jokes. :D

In other news, today's origami was a "box" folded out of a magazine page. It's remarkably difficult to photograph a box!

I folded it out of a page from this month's Chicago Magazine, in case you were wondering. Chicago Magazine is kind of dreadful, but it's also my secret weakness. It's so glossy!
