Good morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!

Ways To Give:

[livejournal.com profile] xturtle is walking in the Wiggle Butt 5K for her birthday, to raise money for animal rescue. You can check out her donation page and help support the rescue here.

[livejournal.com profile] dreamwaffles linked to a fundraiser to help a woman with cerebral palsey whose wheelchair was stolen buy a new one when insurance refused to help.

[personal profile] fairestcat and [personal profile] lanning linked to a post of Lanning's about the Mount Holly NJ Trap-Neuter-Release program, which has lost its grant funding. You can read more and get donation information to keep the program running here.

Help For Free:

[personal profile] hathycol's family is moving to London, UK. They're looking for tips about cheap, safe areas to live, job leads, moving firm recommendations, and other advice on life in London.

[livejournal.com profile] justice_turtle linked me to a very complicated legal battle that I have to admit I didn't have time to study. It seems that...someone in the US, I can't figure out who...is considering outlawing the sale of secondhand items if any part of them is copyrighted. I genuinely don't have the time to work through this so I don't recommend or not-recommend it but you can read more here or here and if you decide you are against this law, there's a petition you can sign here.

Anon is a grad student trying to build a data set for use in a methodology class, and they're interested in studying the relationship between sexual orientation, gender identity and public opinion. They're looking for US Citizens over the age of 18 to fill out a short survey to help them build their data set. I took the survey and it really is quite brief, and as surveys go quite inclusive (allows you to give your own answer for gender identity, etc).

News To Know:

@honeyelle has released her first iOS app, B&E: Water. This is an animated storybook app that was the brainchild of honeyelle and her sister, and they're trying to raise publicity so that they can earn enough from this app to make a second one. You can also read more about BnE Media here.

[livejournal.com profile] miss_sabre let me know about Sherlock Seattle, a convention coming to Seattle on November 3rd. Registration closes October 25th, and they're hoping people who are interested will register early so they can get an accurate count and work out the budget.

[personal profile] jadey linked to an awesome story about a man in India who gave up everything to create a perfect low-cost menstrual pad.

Just For Fun:

Elizabeth linked to an awesome letter about book banning by Pat Conroy. "You've now entered the ranks of censors, book-banners, and teacher-haters, and the word will spread."

[livejournal.com profile] soul_cake_duck linked to an interesting NYT article on writing styles.

[livejournal.com profile] iesika linked to a song that people who get interrupted while reading books may appreciate.

[livejournal.com profile] dreamwaffles, given the Halloween season, linked to the very wise Creepypasta Survival Guide.

And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!). Remember, brevity is the soul of RFM.
Awkward Coworker just walked past me with a cup and a bag from Starbucks.

Awkward: I'm battling the insanity of this day with caffeine and sugar.
Sam: Well, I don't see how that plan could possibly fail.
Awkward: It's worked so far.
Sam: Initiate Operation How Can This Go Badly?
Awkward: All my Operations are called that! With numbers after them.

D'aw. Look at us interacting like actual people!

I did end up locating and watching the chronologically-arranged Marvel Movierverse film cut this weekend.

In case you're worried about spoilers for movies from 2008-2011, review is behind the cut. )

So yeah. Nine hours, five movies, and I didn't have quite the staying power to get through Avengers as well, but it's not like I haven't seen it a few times already.

Also, if you enjoy Sam Explains Comics for the learnings and not the banter, I did a post over on Tumblr detailing the terrifyingly dysfunctional Ultimate Comics romance between Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff. Complete with Natasha's hilarious spiderweb undies.

ALSO: crackfic.

The following is taken verbatim from text messages between my mother and myself.

Mum: Guess who got a jury summons from the state of Texas?
Me: Oh that sucks!
Mum: YOU DID.
Me: OH NO
Mum: Seriously, you are due to report to the courthouse in two weeks.
Mum: I will be so glad to see you!
Me: Funny. Can you send it to me?
Mum: Tell them you hate Amazon.com and they'll let you off.
Mum: It's like hating America
Me: I'm an anarchist and a commie!
Mum: That's my boy. When you got a letter from the Sheriff's office I thought you'd gotten a ticket
Mum: Eating cupcakes in a no-cupcake zone
Me: I'm a rebel without a fork.
Mum: I'll bring you cookies in jail.

THANKS MUM.

Fortunately, in Austin at least, you can exempt yourself from jury duty online, and they accept "I do not live in Texas" as a valid excuse.
