You know, that last post was a lot funnier before I collapsed in the middle of the Marshall Fields building. Yeah, by the fountain. Fun! Or, you know, not at all.

I'm pretty sure it was a panic attack, though it was my first time actually having one and kinda felt like I was dying. I'm not agoraphobic and while I don't generally like people I don't tend to mind crowds, because in crowds there's no awkward requirement for socialisation. I don't know what triggered it; possibly a combination of being ill and not having had any lunch, though I felt well enough this morning to venture out with no real qualms. I have some other theories but I need to do some thinking-through first.

Say what you like about the evil of Macy's, the people who work there are on the ball. They got a big area around me cleared and hustled me into an office, got me seen by a nurse and offered to hail me a cab when I was ready to go. I ended up walking the two blocks to Michigan Avenue Immediate Care, possibly the best non-emergency emergency room in Chicago, and they confirmed that it was probably not a heart attack, so well done me.

I did not get to do my Christmas shopping, though, so some of my near and dear may get their gifts a bit late. I also didn't get back to Fox & Obel, which is a bummer. I caught a cab home from Immediate Care and I'm feeling okay now, just a little shaky.

Yes, I am going to see a doctor about this, though not today. I texted R and he's going to check on me later this afternoon and make sure I'm still all right. I had some cheese and bread when I got home, and now I'm going to lie down on the couch and watch TV for a while.

I always feel like I'm dying when I have panic attacks, no matter how many I've had in my life. So, that doesn't seem unusual (although it does sucks monkey balls).

I'm sorry you had one, and I hope it was a one-time occurence. I'm glad R is taking care of you a bit. <3

Tea, with honey in it, wrapped up in a blanket, on the couch. The Roomba will keep you company.

Substitute tea for cocoa, if necessary. Stay warm and be sure to have some protein later, whether it be more cheese or something else.

My little sister-in-law has these from time to time. Stay safe, Sam.

panik attacks suck! I have one about once a week, so I know how bad they can be.
But maybe it was just a collapse. No food, stress, many people can cause that. Nothing bad, just stupid.
Hope you feel better soon and that the doc says that everything is alright as well.
*hugs*

Yuck!
Hope you're feeling better!

It does sound like you might have gotten hypoglycemic. That and stress could well have interacted to trigger a panic attack or something simnilar.
When you do get it evaluated, it might be a good idea to get a glucose tolerance test, or at least a fasting glucose.

That was my first thought as well. Did they check your blood sugar at Immediate Care?

I have to admit, though I did chuckle at the last post, it did set me to wondering what if something *did* happen you. How would we ever find out? Sadness.

Well, cheers for not having a heart attack. *sends hugs and honey citron tea your way*

Oh, sweetheart. *snuggles you*

I have panic attacks sometimes too, and I have them most often when I haven't eaten. They do indeed feel like you're dying - I'm extremely glad you didn't, however! Cheese and bread is a good plan, a lie down with relaxing TV is a good plan, getting R to check on you is a very good plan.

It's times like these when I wish I could teleport. I'd zap myself over to you, give you a hug and cook you dinner. Alas, I'll have to settle for sending e-hugs, and saying that if you need medical advice (of the reasonably reliable sort! and at least I don't charge!) or just someone to talk to, you know where I am.

Love you, sweetie. Get some rest.

Much sympathy.

My husband suffers from panic attacks so I have as good an idea of how horrible they are as you can without actually having one(we actually spent yesterday in the hospital when he had a particularly bad one at work).

I hope you feel better soon and that the doctor is able to give you some helpful advice.

You were saying you had cold symptoms at work yesterday or the day before. Could this be the effects of some stealthy virus lurking in your body?

Oh, EEEEP!!! I'm very glad it wasn't a heart attack, anyway. But, as other people have said, it may have been exacerbated by low blood sugar, which is surprisingly easy to achieve when you're feeling ill anyway and have little appetite. (As I know from personal experience.) Also, if you haven't had enough to drink, that can make one feel wobbly.

*puts on Official Aunty Marion Accept No Substitutes hat and glares sternly at Sam*

Keep warm, eat, slump in front of TV; and it's great that R is going to keep an eye on you!

Oh, sweetie. Depression and anxiety go hand in hand. Chances are if you've ever had one you're open to a run in with the other side too. :/ *squash*

Orange juice might make you feel a little better too if it was low blood sugar induced. I'm glad R is going to check on you and no doubt tell you something that will make you laugh.

Yeah, I've been alternating OJ and tea this afternoon, and they gave me some kind of orange glucose thing at Immediate Care. I've always known that anxiety attacks were a possibility, but I've managed to avoid them until now. Weird...
