Jul. 19th, 2010 08:47 amGood morning, all, and welcome to RADIO FREE MONDAY. Look!
twirlynoodle made me an icon.
It's a good thing I put this in place, actually, because I got a lot of links this week.
Most important perhaps is the cavalcade of links I got about the I Write Like meme. It's problematic on many levels -- remember what I said about dead white guys? Turns out the list of possible authors is all-white, and I can't find the post where I read this but I believe the ratio of men to women is something like 37 to 3. When confronted with this info, the creator of the meme said that he will not diversify his list, because all people are equal to him. Which of course is why the entire list of writers he uses is white and most are male. Also, the entire thing is a google bomb for a vanity Christian publisher. It is strongly recommended that you remove any links on any I Write Likes you posted.
On the other hand, it's hard to think some asshat being an asshat is more important than
graduate_maria, a fannish auction to raise money to help
theotoky, already working full time to cover living expenses, complete her last semester of college. You can find out more info on the profile page, but there's a lot of cool stuff up for auction.
talekyn has a plea on behalf of the National Abolition Hall of Fame.
I'm super-depressed to have to share this one, but
acroamatica got screwed by Lulu. Those of you who have Lulu accounts may want to consider removing your credit card information. ARGH.
SO LET'S END WITH SOME FUN STUFF OK?
51stcenturyfox wroted a fanfic. It is a purely fun fanfic about Jack Harkness explaining his view of sex (and chocolate digestives) to the Doctor. Go ye and read!
In a contest between Ben Franklin and Captain Jack Harkness for sheer cheerful debauchery, who would win? (Remember to leave your thoughts there, not here!)
siege_ofcahoots linked me to Doctor Who villains charted by frequency. A lot of people are surprised the Daleks aren't bigger, but the Daleks are mostly Presence -- they have had more episodes than any other villain, but not that many more. I have yet to encounter some of these villains in my Epic Rewatch, but now I'm looking forward to it. Though I do find it odd that Cybermen and Cybermats are separated -- they're part of the same general species and you rarely see one without the other.
This has been Radio Free Monday. Thank you for your links, your time, and your attention!
